Trekking
Ethiopia’s landscape calls almost anyone who has keen interest for trekking. Do you know that over 75% of Africa’s landmass (mountains) which have got 3,000m a.s.l and above are found in Ethiopia?

But it is not the mountains only that Ethiopia offers for the trekker. It is the mountains and their vergin beauty.

From among these trekking places one (SMNP) contains superlative natural phenomena with areas of exceptional natural beauty and aesthetic importance that it is listed as world heritage site solely on the merit of its outstanding beauty. The most popular trekking routes are along the western side of the massif-the most impressive section of the famous escarpment.

To trek in the spectacular Semien Mountains you will need a minimum of three days. Six to eight days is better ,particularly if you are planning to climb Ras Dashen (the fourth highest mountain in Africa). If you are also thinking of including the low lands then you will need more days.Don't forget to allow time to acclimatize yourself particularly if you are aiming to climb Ras Dashen.

Bale Mountains National Park (BMNP) also offers the best trekking in Ethiopia by enabling you escape from the crowd into the peace, serenity and beauty of mountains. The park contains the largest area of Afro alpine habitat (c. 1,000 km2) on the continent. Particularly for a combination of trekking and wild life this place is one of the best places.

Most trekking in the Bale Mountains is fairly gentle and less demanding. It follows good and well trodden paths or sheep tracks. But dont forget that the effect of altitude can make easy looking terrain quite heavy going. So it is recommended to spend one night in Dinsho for acclimatization and even to well organize your trip.

Implemented by GTZ, the German Technical Development Organization, trekking in the hills above Adaba and Dodola is probably the best-organized eco-tourism in Ethiopia with a series of five mountain huts, joined by trails such that one can spend from one to five nights in the area.
